The Harvard Host Program is a great way to get a taste of the American lifestyle and make friends out of Harvard Community. The hosts can help you by providing a place to stay initially and in getting basic stuff that you will need later in the year. Find more information here.

Do's and Dont's
- Books are expensive in US. Find out what books you will need and get them along.
- Bedroom basics : Linen, towels, footwear, cosmetics and everyday needs (atleast 1 month supplies)
- Clothes: Winters are cold. Get your basic stuff and woolens . Its advisable to buy winter jackets/gears from here. Summers are warm so get summer clothes.
- Utensils: If you are planning to cook, get basic utensils to get you started. You can always make a trip to Ikea (drive only) or home-depot (Bus ride) and get more utensils later. Brings plates, spoons etc. if you are planning to stay in the Dorms.
- Food: Get basic spices and basic stuff. You can get maggi and lentils etc easily at the Indian Stores here.
- Medicines: Get your most common medicines. carry extra specs, crocin etc. Carry eye drops, ear drops. You know it.
- Money: You are allowed to get cash upto $5000 and total currency upto $10000. Make sure you open an account before hand or the first day you arrive in Boston. HUECU is a great bank which can be useful in applying for a loan later. Bring money in form of Demand Draft because its safer and easier to carry. You can also get the pre-paid money cards and use them as debit cards here. Every shop in US accepts plastic cards.
- Driving: Your Indian license is valid in Massachusetts for one year. Take precaution in driving! Left is right here.
